Our History
The 4th Battalion was formed in
January 1776 and was then under the command
of Colonel Anthony "Mad Anthony" Wayne.
After the promotion of Wayne to Brigadier
General, the 4th Battalion was mustered out and
reformed as the 5th Pennsylvania Regiment under
the command of Colonel Francis Johnston. The
regiment continued to wear its distinctive
uniform, insisted upon by Wayne, of blue coats
with white facings and pewter buttons marked 4BP
to signify the 4th Battalion. Members of the
regiment served throughout the War and at the
victory at Yorktown. Members were recruited from
Bucks, Chester, Lancaster and Philadelphia
counties.
Unit structure
The Regiment currently fields
three companies:
Battalion Company, commanded by John Godzieba.
Rifle Company, commanded by Bruce Cobb.
Light Infantry Company, commanded by Patrick
Jordan.
