Our History
Coryell's Ferry Militia is the 18th
century citizen's militia for the town of
Coryell's Ferry, now modern day New Hope,
Pennsylvania. The unit takes its roots from
Solebury Rifle Companies #1 and #2, and has
evolved to include three artillery batteries
supported by Continental regulars.
The Unit
Coryell's Ferry Militia consists of three fully
functioning artillery batteries: a three-quarter
scale light six pounder on a traveling carriage
and two three-quarter scale six pounders on naval
carriages. All three are fired regularly at
numerous historical reenactments, civic events
and educational programs throughout Pennsylvania,
New Jersey and Delaware.

In September of 1997, Coryell's
Ferry Militia commanded the artillery during the
launching of Delaware's Tall Ship the KALMAR
NYCKEL, a full scale reproduction of
the 17th century Swedish
warship that founded the colony of Delaware. In
May of 1998, the Militia provided gun crews,
artillery tools and cannons for the ship's maiden
voyage.
The 1997-1998 candidate chosen
to portray the role of General George Washington
at Washington
Crossing Historic Park's
Christmas Day Crossing of the Delaware is Robert
Gerenser, the founder of this living history
unit. Each November the Militia provides
artillery and gun crews for the defense of Fort
Mifflin, and in December they host two events in
the town of New Hope, PA: Monroe's Crossing at
Coryell's Ferry and the Colonial Christmas Ball.
