Fort Ticonderoga

Built in 1755 by the French, Fort Carillon - renamed Fort Ticonderoga in 1759 by the British, stands guard over the southern tip of Lake Champlain in northern New York State. It was at this fort on May 10th, 1775 that Americans secured their first victory in their War for Independence. Its cannon were then used by George Washington to lay siege to Boston, and it was from this fort that the American attacks against the British forces in Canada were launched.

A trip to Fort Ticonderoga on July 10th, 1999 provided the images published herein.
